Hi guys and gals,

I'm Mike and I'm the new site owner!!!!!!!!!!

Yes Balloon has floated away and on to better things (if there is anything better than CGFX Smile ).
I'm sure he will be back to make a leaving speech though.

I spent most of today reading the forum so I feel I've got to know you all pretty well already.

About me...

I'm seriously old. A programmer originally who now runs my own 1 man Web Design/Development company.
I should say straight away I'm a rubbish designer and I tend to buy in great designs rather than try to do it myself.
That wasn't a very inspiring presentation was it.

My plans for crypticgfx.com...

I own http://designertuts.com
When I bought it ages ago it was almost fully a Photoshop tutorial site. As my skills are everything except Photoshop Smile I have been gradually adding other stuff like PHP tutorials.

My idea is to try and make crypticgfx and designertuts work together in some way. Designertuts will have the tutorials and crypticgfx will have the discussion.

I don't know what the best way to achieve this would be. Some possibilities that occur to me are:

1) Keep them pretty much separate (seperate?) Maybe just have a subforum called DesignerTuts where people could discuss any designertuts.com tutorials
Then on designertuts.com just have a link after each tutorial saying something like "if you want to discuss this, go over to gfx.com..."

2) Keep them separate i.e. 2 websites but merge their content. i.e. there would be a direct match between the forums/sub forums on cgfx and the tutorial areas on designertuts. This would mostly mean cgfx making changes but would also work the other way round. So we could make a specific gfx section on designertuts.

3) Merge the gfx forum into the designertuts site. This would mean crypticgfx.com would be no more but there would be a "Forum" link on designertuts.com
In would be necessary to merge the designs as well in this case I think or maybe not?

I'd like to know what people think and I am very willing to listen. Also let me know if you have any other ideas apart from these.

From reading the forum I see that some of you have been working on stuff for the site like videos/watermarks/music and stuff. If there is anything you think I should know about get in touch.

I'm afraid the site isn't going to be the same anymore. I don't have the skills of Balloon and can't do his tutorials and stuff. So unless some other members step forward we may be struggling. I'm hoping that Designertuts will pull in more members though. We will have to wait and see.

TheDesigner is a great guy guys. I hope everybody gives him a warm welcome. I'll still be posting on the forums occasionally as well.
sad to hear ur more or less leaving balloon =/
but ofc, Welcome TheDesigner! Smile
Well i'm not leaving persay, I just have as much time to dedicate to it anymore... Chridian will hopefully continue to admin, I'm trying to get in touch with him.
Welcome to the forum.
Just to let you know I have decided that big changes might be a big mistake so I am going to start slowly by looking at DesignerTuts.com and picking one or two of the most popular subjects and introducing them here on CGFX. Also I will add links and some promotion for CGFX over on DesignerTuts.com

Hopefully this will bring in a few new members and stimulate a bit of discussion. Smile
